Unit 8 Post

Hello Class,

I think loving-kindness and sublet mind would be ones I would practice the most. I have issues with focusing, quieting my mind from other thoughts and holding on to anger. I think the loving-kindness mediation is good for taking things beyond me.  My grandmother always says when you are at your lowest then go do some volunteer work. The loving kindness exercise makes you focus on something other than yourself and then send love and light to those that are suffering and need that energy.  The subtle mind exercise I need because I tend to have racing thoughts. They are constant and at times I can’t stop my brain from thinking of anything else other than the problem I am having at the time. Sometimes I wish for stillness in my mind and time to do nothing but focus on peace. This seems to be the hardest thing in the world to do. So I think in doing this I will attempt to master a weakness in myself. I think practicing one of these meditations daily will help. With that in mind I feel like I will have to write it into my schedule. Possibly after or before my workouts in order to really move forward.  I think in time once it’s become a habit using these twice a day would help. Starting my day with a subtle mind meditation and ending my day with loving and kindness. I think it would create balance in my spirit and mind.

Thanks,

Ebony

  1. You and I both had a lot in common in terms of the practices we felt were most beneficial. I chuckled when you mentioned scheduling in time to meditate, but I think that it a good idea. I find things like meditation and exercise fall by the wayside if not scheduled in. Things always come up, especially with a family, but if it's scheduled in, it's a commitment that needs to be worked around!

  2. Hey Ebony,
I really like the suggestion you grandmother has that when you feel your lowest do some volunteer work. Parts of our practices can be applied into this thought if we think about it. I think it can be the second experience to bring to mind from our latest practice we engaged in, bringing to mind an experience that provided us with a sense of wholeness? That’s how I feel when doing volunteer work or something “just because” for the community. This can be a great suggestion as well for the people we come to support in the future as well – don’t ya think? Also, isn’t the subtle mind exercise useful? I too have an over active racing mind. I need this to help me slow down often. Thanks for the post!
    Ron.

  3. Hi Ebony,
Reading through your plan, I cannot believe I hadn’t mentioned journaling within mine. Journaling is such a truth teller of where we are. I promote this behavior even at this early stage of my evolving career for those I serve.
Also, I like your exploration of different spiritualities. I really think this is important for parts of populations that we will come across that do not yet understand spirituality. I say this only because I’m somewhat part of this group. I definitely have been advancing quickly but only because of my own intentions. We need to let those in need know of the variety of spirituality available.
    Thanks,
    Ron
